Software Engineer

 

Trans-Plan is a Canadian professional transportation engineering company that creates thoughtful plans for movement in urban environments. We solve challenging pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and automobile transportation problems by applying our expert knowledge and utmost care in traffic and transportation, planning, design and collaboration with other professionals. We provide urban transportation advisory services to public and private clients across Canada. Trans-Plan actively encourages its employees to grow with the company. This is a full-time position with an average of 40 hours per week. Working hours are typically weekday daytime hours.

We are looking for a proactive and hardworking junior software engineer to contribute to our current and future iPhone, iPad, and Android apps. Android knowledge is a bonus as well.

DUTIES:
As a junior software engineer, your responsibilities will range from high- level user interfaces to writing networking code to communicate with web service APIs to developing framework code. You'll be responsible for maintaining and improving existing apps and implementing new and innovative features for future apps. You will also be responsible for debugging and delivering the best possible application performance.

  • Take start-to-finish technical ownership of features and/or applications from inception to delivery;
  • iOS (Cocoa, Objective C, C++, iPhone SDK);
  • Android (Android Framework, Java);
  • Mobile Web (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, RWD, mobile-first frontend frameworks);
  • Integration with Cloud-based solutions;
  • Work from UI/UX requirements and mockups to build functional, high-performance iPhone, iPad and Android apps;
  • Collaborate with all team members to help develop the vision for new products, providing creative and technical insight throughout the project;
  • Create and maintain technical design documentation for new features and applications;
  • Work closely with Product Management, Client Services and Sales teams to define, deliver and support the best possible product;
  • Play an important role in improving the team’s technical depth and efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1+ year’s experience in professional software development. A deep understanding of the mobile technology landscape with expert knowledge in the following:

  • Strong object-oriented programming and design skills.
  • In-depth development experience with at least one of the following:
  • Objective-C, C++, or C.
  • Performance analysis and tuning experience including memory usage,
  • CPU utilization, leak checking, etc.
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Education: BS Degree in CS, ME, EE, or equivalent required.
